It should be inserted the full length of the spike. In very soft or slushy sand it can be inserted deeper to ensure maximum stability.

Best results and maximum stability is achieved by using it in the full vertical position, this ensures total use of the “shock absorber” qualities of your rod and fewer pulled hooks.

Stab the holder into the sand several times in the same spot, then maintain downwards pressure and wiggle the holder from side to side. In extreme cases, use the available foot peg by standing on it and continue wiggling the holder. DO NOT hammer the holder in as this will damage the protective flare and foot peg.

Being all stainless steel, these rod holders are pretty much bullet proof. As with all fishing tackle, washing them down with fresh water before storage is always a good idea, be sure to squirt fresh water down the tube to dislodge any sand.
